Being the third model in the manufacturer’s “EV” battery electric vehicle range after the EV6 and EV9, the Kia EV5 is a battery electric Compact Crossover SUV. It is also the first battery-electric vehicle that will be exported by Kia from China.

The EV5 Is built on Hyundai Motor Group’s E-GMP platform and features BYD’s Blade lithium iron phosphate battery technology with 88 kWh with 160kW (215 hp) and 447 miles (720 km) range. It will be sold as a front-wheel drive model in China.

Kia EV5 render regenerative braking and an i-Pedal system for one-pedal driving. It also offers vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-grid (V2G) capability, although there’s no word on how the vehicle-to-grid capability, enables surplus battery energy to be shared with the grid.

The steering wheel has an unorthodox shape that is nearly rectangular. The cargo space has more than enough packing space behind the second row for an average small family’s daily needs.

The design EV5 has 21-inch wheels, distinctive squared-off fenders and a roof spoiler which add to superior aerodynamics. Rear-hinged suicide doors create a wide-open space to enter or exit the vehicle.
